Reflection of a Past SITs
Being an SIT this past summer was the best choice I ever could have made. It helped me grow in my faith and grow as a person in so many ways and some that I didn't expect. From the moment I arrived at [camp], I felt I had a family there. The SIT's became my close friends and it was as if I had known them for a lot longer than a few weeks. I was challenged to put myself out there and grow but never in an uncomfortable way and always had help whenever I needed it. I learned patience from working with the kids, and better communication skills which helped me share with the campers my faith and show them how awesome God is. The energy at camp is addicting because it is unlike that of a caffeine rush or even hanging out with friends. The campers kept me laughing and the other SIT's and counselors were there for me when I needed but the camp atmosphere is like another world where the regular stresses of the world are nonexistent. At camp I can be 100% me and it's totally cool!Being back at home, I realize my summer as an SIT helped me become closer to my family, value them more and I can better communicate with them. It has helped repair my relationship with my dad and see situations in a new way. I look forward to going back next summer as a counselor and pursuing my career in ministry. - Ashley, 2010 Staff in Training (SIT)
